How Mytabmat Started
Mytabmat began with a simple, everyday frustration. Our founder, Marcus, spent years watching his young daughter spill food across the dinner table night after night — sauce on the tablecloth, crumbs on the floor, and a stack of napkins that never seemed to be enough. Like many parents, he tried a handful of placemats from different stores, but most either slid around the table, were too stiff to fold for travel, or simply didn't hold up to daily washing.
That everyday hassle turned into a question he couldn't stop thinking about: why hasn't anyone made a placemat that actually fits into a busy family's real life? That question became the starting point for Mytabmat.
Who We Are
Mytabmat was founded by a small team of parents, designers, and product enthusiasts who, in one way or another, had all experienced the same mealtime chaos at home. We're not a large corporation — we're a group of people who genuinely enjoy solving small, practical problems that make everyday routines a little easier. Some of us come from a product design background, others from customer service, and a few simply joined because they liked the idea from the very first conversation.
Why Placemats
It might seem like an unusual category to build a brand around, but for us, it made complete sense. A placemat sits at the center of some of the most ordinary — and most meaningful — moments in a household: breakfast before school, a quiet dinner after a long day, a toddler's very first attempts at feeding themselves. Marcus often says that the placemat is one of those objects nobody thinks about until it's missing, or until it's doing its job badly. We wanted to be the team that thought about it, carefully, on your behalf.
Getting here wasn't a straight line. Early on, we tested materials that looked promising on paper but cracked after a few weeks of daily use, or that curled up at the edges in the dishwasher. There were plenty of samples that ended up in the trash, and more than one late night spent redesigning a product that seemed "almost right." Each setback pushed us to look more closely at how real families actually use a placemat — not just how it looks in a photo, but how it holds up on a Tuesday morning with a toddler, a spilled cup of milk, and five minutes to get out the door.
What We Believe
We believe that small daily objects deserve real thought, not just decoration. A placemat should hold up to daily life — easy to wipe down, easy to store, and sturdy enough to be part of your routine without demanding extra effort from you. We'd rather build something that quietly works well every single day than something that only looks good in a single photo.
